About Boulder Fields

Boulder Fields is a dynamic musical collective from Edinburgh, spearheaded by Cam Fraser, whose songwriting lies at the heart of the group’s distinctive sound. Fraser first gained recognition as the frontman of the influential Scottish grunge band The Cateran, which notably toured alongside icons like Nirvana and Tad during the groundbreaking first UK grunge circuit. Over the years, Fraser shared stages with diverse artists such as The Proclaimers, My Bloody Valentine, Warren Zevon, The Wedding Present, Johnny Thunders, and Hüsker Dü’s Grant Hart, building a reputation for music that defies easy classification.

Today, Boulder Fields channels this eclectic legacy into a rich blend of predominantly acoustic music that fuses indie pop, Americana, and Scottish folk traditions. Their sound is thoughtfully textured, often punctuated by bursts of intense indie rock that bring emotional depth and dynamic contrasts. Critics have highlighted their music’s timeless quality: FATEA Magazine praised their “almost perfect amalgam of Scottish folk and indie pop with Americana influences,” while Mojo awarded their work four stars, noting its “fine spartan rusticana” in the vein of Jason Molina and Jeff Tweedy. Uncut also lauded Fraser’s “understated melodies” that convey raw emotion, giving an 8/10 rating. Americana UK and Spill Magazine further emphasize Boulder Fields as key voices at the intersection of folk, rock, and pop within the evolving Scottish music scene.

Boulder Fields continues to carve a unique niche through evocative songwriting and compelling genre fusion, securing their place among Scotland’s most engaging contemporary acts.
