About Uriah Heep

Uriah Heep, named after the scheming character in Charles Dickens' *David Copperfield*, has been a defining force in British hard rock and progressive metal since its formation in 1969. Founded by powerful vocalist David Byron and guitarist Mick Box, the band originally performed as Spice before expanding their lineup with multi-instrumentalist Ken Hensley, bassist Paul Newton, and drummer Nigel Olsson. Their debut album, "Very 'Eavy...Very 'Umble" (1970), initially faced mixed reviews but later earned acclaim as a pioneering heavy metal classic, blending blues-infused hard rock with rich organ-driven arrangements.

The band's breakthrough came with 1972’s "Demons and Wizards," featuring enduring hits like "Easy Livin'," "Lady in Black," and "The Wizard." This momentum fueled a string of successful albums such as "The Magician’s Birthday" (1972) and "Return to Fantasy" (1975), securing Uriah Heep’s place among the era’s rock legends alongside Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. Despite numerous lineup changes over five decades—with Mick Box as the only constant member—Uriah Heep has retained their signature mix of gothic metal and progressive rock.

In the 1980s, the band incorporated more commercial AOR and pop-metal elements, highlighted by the acclaimed "Abominog" (1982). Their creative journey continues today with albums like "Living the Dream" (2018) and their 25th studio release, "Chaos & Colour" (2023). Though they mourned the loss of key founding members Ken Hensley and Lee Kerslake in 2020, Uriah Heep’s enduring legacy remains a cornerstone of classic and progressive rock history.
