About Circle Takes the Square

Circle Takes the Square is a groundbreaking American screamo band originating from Savannah, Georgia, formed in 1999 by Drew Speziale, Kathleen Stubelek, and Caleb Collins. The trio quickly gained underground acclaim with their self-titled six-track EP in 2001, followed by a compelling 7" split release with fellow screamo act Pg. 99 in 2002. Their debut studio album, "As the Roots Undo" (2004), released through Robotic Empire on CD and HyperRealist Records on gatefold vinyl, marked a significant breakthrough, earning critical praise for its intense fusion of screamo, post-hardcore, and experimental rock.

To support the album, Circle Takes the Square embarked on extensive touring, including a memorable six-week East Coast run that extended into Canada, sharing stages with Arkata and Raise Them And Eat Them. After an eight-year hiatus, the band returned with the ambitious "Decompositions: Volume Number One," which arrived digitally in December 2012 and saw a physical release in April 2013. Known for pushing the boundaries of emo and punk, Circle Takes the Square has established itself as a key influence within the genre. Their dynamic sound and passionate performances continue to captivate fans and inspire new generations of artists in the evolving alternative music landscape.
