About Queens of the Stone Age

Queens of the Stone Age, formed in 1996 in Palm Desert, California, emerged from the underground stoner rock scene to become one of the most influential heavy rock bands of the modern era. Founded by frontman Josh Homme following the breakup of his previous band Kyuss, they initially performed under the name Gamma Ray before adopting the iconic Queens of the Stone Age moniker due to legal issues. Their self-titled debut (1998) showcased Homme’s multi-instrumental talents and a raw, desert rock vibe, laying the foundation for their distinctive sound.

Queens of the Stone Age’s major breakthrough came with *Rated R* (2000), an album blending thick, gritty guitars with psychedelic experimentation that included international hits like "The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret." Their 2002 release *Songs for the Deaf*—featuring Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums—catapulted them to new heights, delivering massive singles such as "No One Knows" and "Go with the Flow." Throughout their career, the band has seen a revolving lineup but retained Homme as the creative core, attracting collaborations with artists like Mark Lanegan, Trent Reznor, and Elton John.

Subsequent albums, including *Lullabies to Paralyze* (2005), *Era Vulgaris* (2007), and the Grammy-nominated *...Like Clockwork* (2013)—their first number-one on the Billboard charts—demonstrate their evolving sound and sustained appeal. Their partnership with Mark Ronson on *Villains* (2017) infused fresh energy, while their latest self-produced album *In Times New Roman…* (2023) earned multiple Grammy nominations, confirming Queens of the Stone Age’s continued innovation and enduring influence in rock music worldwide.
