About American Football

American Football is a seminal American indie rock and emo band that first emerged in the late 1990s. Formed while the members were still in college, they quietly released their self-titled debut album in 1999. Though the initial release went largely unnoticed, it gradually amassed a dedicated following within the underground emo scene. This album has since been hailed as a cult classic, earning the number six spot on Rolling Stone’s “40 Greatest Emo Albums of All Time” and receiving exceptional praise from Pitchfork, which called its deluxe reissue the "most influential album in the genre."

Despite disbanding shortly after their debut, American Football’s reputation only grew during a 15-year hiatus, impacting generations of emo and indie rock fans worldwide. The band reunited in 2014 and released two more albums, *LP2* (2016) and *LP3* (2019), both self-titled, further solidifying their influence. Alongside these releases, they embarked on multiple sold-out international tours and collaborated with artists including Hayley Williams of Paramore and electronic musician San Holo.

In 2024, marking 25 years since their debut, American Football celebrated with a remastered edition of their original album, engineered once again by Jonathan Pines at Urbana’s Private Studios. They also released *American Football (Covers)*, featuring reinterpretations by notable artists such as Iron & Wine, Manchester Orchestra, Ethel Cain, and Blondshell. This milestone underscores American Football’s lasting impact, as their innovative sound continues to transcend generations, genres, and geographic boundaries.
