About EELS

Eels is the long-standing musical project helmed by Mark Oliver Everett, known simply as E, who launched the band in Los Angeles in 1995. Born on April 9, 1963, in Virginia, Everett's early exposure to music came through his sister’s record collection. After learning drums at six, he taught himself guitar and piano, channeling personal tragedy—including the loss of his father during youth—into a powerful creative outlet.

Before forming Eels, Everett released two solo albums, *A Man Called (E)* (1992) and *Broken Toy Shop* (1993), laying the groundwork for his evolving sound. The band's debut album *Beautiful Freak* (1996) introduced audiences to their unique blend of offbeat pop and indie rock, highlighted by the hit single "Novocaine for the Soul," which earned three MTV Video Music Award nominations and a Brit Award.

Eels' music is deeply personal, often exploring themes of loss, grief, and introspection. This raw emotional core is especially evident in *Electro-Shock Blues* (1998), an album shaped by the deaths of Everett’s mother and sister. The band's sound has continuously evolved, from the orchestral richness of *Blinking Lights and Other Revelations* (2005) and *Daisies of the Galaxy* (2000), to the experimental electronic textures on *The Deconstruction* (2018), and the guitar-driven energy of *Extreme Witchcraft* (2022). Most recently, *Eels Time!* (2024) showcased intimate, reflective songwriting created in collaboration with Tyson Ritter of The All-American Rejects.

Over nearly three decades, Eels has secured a devoted audience through a blend of innovative musicality and emotionally candid storytelling, making Mark Everett’s project a distinctive force in alternative music.
