About Cut Copy

Cut Copy is a critically acclaimed Australian band that expertly blends alternative rock with electronic dance music, creating a vibrant and innovative sound. Founded in Melbourne in 2001 as Dan Whitford’s bedroom recording project, the band soon expanded to include guitarist Tim Hoey, drummer Mitchell Scott, and bassist Ben Browning. Cut Copy gained widespread recognition with their breakthrough album "In Ghost Colours" (2008), praised by Pitchfork as one of the best albums of the decade. Their follow-up, "Zonoscope" (2011), demonstrated fearless sonic experimentation, earning two ARIA Awards and a GRAMMY® nomination.

Known for their dynamic live performances, Cut Copy has graced major festivals worldwide, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Ultra, and Primavera Sound. Their deep connection to dance culture extends beyond their band setup through acclaimed DJ mixes like "Fabriclive.29" and the "Oceans Apart" compilation. The 2020 album "Freeze, Melt" marked a thoughtful shift from high-energy anthems to a more introspective, mellow electronic style, showcasing their evolving artistry.

Throughout their career, Cut Copy has sold out over a thousand headline shows and embraced a wide range of influences—combining elements of dub, Afrobeat, and 70s harmonies. Their music’s broad appeal has secured placements in popular TV shows, video games, and major advertising campaigns for brands such as FIFA, Netflix, Levi’s, Chevrolet, and Amazon. In celebration of a decade of innovation, the band released the vinyl box set "Collected Works 2001-2011" in 2022, highlighting their genre-defying journey and enduring impact on the indie electronic scene.
