El-B, also known by his aliases Ghost and SW2, is a pioneering force in the evolution of UK underground music, particularly in UK garage and dubstep. Emerging from South London in the late 1990s, El-B played a crucial role in shaping the darker, more atmospheric side of UK garage. His production style is distinguished by sparse, haunting basslines, intricate percussion, and an eerie minimalism that set him apart from many of his contemporaries. These elements laid the groundwork for the early dubstep movement, influencing a generation of producers drawn to his stripped-back, tension-filled aesthetic.

El-B’s reputation grew through key releases like "Buck & Bury" and "Danger 12," which became underground anthems within pirate radio circuits and intimate club scenes across London. Operating under the moniker SW2—a nod to South West London—and through his Ghost Recordings label, he collaborated with vocalists such as Juiceman and artists including Zed Bias and Horsepower Productions.
