About Fake Names

Fake Names is a formidable punk rock supergroup formed in 2016, uniting some of the most iconic figures from the D.C. hardcore and post-hardcore scenes. The band features guitarists Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Bad Religion, Dag Nasty) and Michael Hampton (S.O.A., Embrace, The Faith), vocalist Dennis Lyxzén (Refused, INVSN, The [International] Noise Conspiracy), bassist Johnny Temple (Girls Against Boys, Soulside), and drummer Brendan Canty (Fugazi, Rites of Spring). Their combined pedigree creates a rich foundation for a sound that bridges punk’s rebellious roots with fresh, melodic energy.

Since their inception, Fake Names has released three full-length albums on Epitaph Records. Their self-titled debut (2019) drew heavily on ’70s UK punk and power-pop influences, channeling a vibe that landed somewhere between the Vibrators and Aerosmith. With their follow-up, "Expendables" (2021), produced by Adam ‘Atom’ Greenspan (IDLES, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), the band embraced more urgent, melody-driven arrangements, dialing back distortion without sacrificing intensity. Their latest release, "Punk Ruins" (2023), recorded at Chicago’s renowned Electrical Audio and produced by Matthew Barnhardt (Superchunk, Bob Mould), showcases an evolving blend of D.C. hardcore spirit and infectious power-pop hooks. Tracks like "Until It’s Normal," "Diamond Buzz," and the title track perfectly capture this balance of raw energy and catchy appeal.

Brian Baker describes Fake Names as a "mutual admiration society," highlighting the unique chemistry shared among these punk veterans. Rather than simply revisiting their legacies, the band crafts music that is both a tribute to their past and a bold step forward—offering fans a fresh, dynamic sound rooted in authenticity.
