About The 69 Eyes

The 69 Eyes, formed in Helsinki in 1989, are a seminal Finnish band renowned for their unique fusion of gothic metal with glam and punk influences. Founded by charismatic vocalist Jyrki 69 alongside guitarist Bazie, rhythm guitarist Timo-Timo, bassist Archzie, and drummer Jussi 69, the group initially embraced a glam metal sound, evident in early releases like their 1992 debut *Bump 'n' Grind* and *Savage Garden* (1995). Drawing inspiration from iconic bands such as Motörhead, The Stooges, and The Doors, as well as cult films like *The Crow* and *The Matrix*, The 69 Eyes gradually shifted towards a darker, gothic tone by the late 1990s.

Their breakthrough came with *Blessed Be* (2000), propelled by the gold-certified single "Gothic Girl," which solidified their shift into gothic rock and metal. Success followed with albums like *Paris Kills* (2002) and *Devils* (2004), both charting strongly in Finland and expanding the band’s European fanbase, especially in Germany. The release of *Angels* (2007) further cemented their domestic acclaim, debuting at number one. Exploring industrial elements, they released *Back in Blood* (2009), while their extensive touring—including an American debut on *Last Call with Carson Daly*—boosted international recognition. Celebrating two decades with the compilation *The Best of Helsinki Vampires* (2013), The 69 Eyes continued to evolve with *Universal Monsters* (2016) and *West End* (2019), albums that blend atmospheric gothic depth with hard-hitting riffs, reaffirming their status as pioneers in Finnish gothic metal.

With a career spanning over three decades, The 69 Eyes remain a captivating force, known for their theatrical style and a sound that appeals to fans across the globe.
