About Dread Zeppelin

Dread Zeppelin is an inventive band that emerged in 1989 with a one-of-a-kind musical concept. Founded in Pasadena, California, on January 8—the birthday of Elvis Presley—this group fuses the legendary rock anthems of Led Zeppelin with reggae rhythms inspired by Bob Marley and topped with Elvis-style vocals. Fronted by the larger-than-life Tortelvis (born Greg Tortell), an iconic Elvis impersonator, the band includes guitarists Jah Paul Jo and Carl Jah, bassist Butt-Boy (Gary Putman), percussionist Ed Zeppelin, and drummer Cheese.

Their signature sound transforms classic Led Zeppelin tracks into reggae-inflected reinterpretations, highlighted by playful mashups such as "Heartbreaker (At the End of Lonely Street)." Over more than three decades, Dread Zeppelin has released over 25 albums and toured internationally, earning admiration from Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant for their pioneering role in blending rock, reggae, and tribute performance. Beyond live shows, Tortelvis and Gary Putman co-manage the Cash Cow Recording Co., producing music for Dread Zeppelin and other artists. With a fresh release anticipated in late 2022, Dread Zeppelin continues to captivate audiences with their genre-defying style and enduring tribute to rock and reggae legends.
