About LA LOM

LA LOM, short for The Los Angeles League of Musicians, is a vibrant trio from Los Angeles that channels the city’s rich cultural diversity into a distinctive, guitar-driven sound. Comprising Zac Sokolow on guitar, Jake Faulkner on bass, and Nicholas Baker on drums and percussion, LA LOM initially gained recognition by reinterpreting instrumental versions of soulful ballads from the 1950s and ’60s. Drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Smokey Robinson, Aaron Neville, and Brenda and the Tabulations—whose music was a staple on LA’s iconic K-EARTH 101 radio—the band laid a foundation rooted in classic soul and relaxed, vintage vibes.

Over time, LA LOM’s musical palette expanded to incorporate the heartfelt romance of Mexican Boleros and the infectious rhythms of Cumbia Sonidera—genres that resonate deeply within LA’s neighborhoods, car stereos, and lively dance halls. Their sound further evolves with traces of Peruvian Chicha’s signature guitar twang and elements of Bakersfield Country, resulting in a fresh, multicultural blend that uniquely captures Los Angeles’ musical heartbeat.

Having cultivated a devoted following and drawn admiration from prominent figures like Beck, Vampire Weekend, and BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, LA LOM released their debut album—featuring all original compositions—on August 9, produced by Elliot Bergman, known for his work with Cage the Elephant and Major Lazer. This release via Verve Records cements LA LOM’s position as innovators who seamlessly blend past and present influences into an enduring celebration of their city’s sonic landscape.
