About Joana Serrat

Joana Serrat is a Spanish singer-songwriter renowned for her evocative blend of dream-pop and slowcore, marked by a delicate balance of vulnerability and emotional intensity. Her music has garnered acclaim from leading publications such as Mojo, Uncut, NME, and The Guardian, and has received strong support from BBC 6 Music personalities Lauren Laverne, Guy Garvey, and Gideon Coe. Serrat’s 2023 album, "Big Wave," represents a bold evolution of her sound, intertwining her signature reverb-soaked atmospheres with a fiercer, more distorted edge. Crafted during a turbulent personal period, the record was produced and mixed by Matt Pence at Texas’ Echo Lab, embracing inventive techniques like layering drums and harmonizers over a cappella demos to amplify its raw emotional power.

Collaborations with musicians including Joey McClellan, McKenzie Smith, and friends from Midlake and Mercury Rev infused "Big Wave" with a spontaneous collective spirit. Noteworthy tracks highlight musical innovation, such as the bass Moog introduced by Scott Lee on "Feathers" and the Björk-inspired ballad "This House," where Jesse Chandler’s use of a harmonizer on piano strings creates an evocative soundscape. Through "Big Wave," Joana Serrat deepens her artistic palette, pushing experimental boundaries while maintaining the textured, immersive qualities that define her enduring appeal in the contemporary indie folk and dream-pop scenes.
