About Congo Natty

Congo Natty, born Mikail Tafari in Tottenham’s Broadwater Farm estate, is a seminal figure in the UK jungle music scene whose influence has spanned over three decades. Raised by a Jamaican soundman father and a Welsh mother, Mikail’s musical journey began in the underground rave culture of the 1980s, where he honed his skills as a DJ and producer. Over the years, he has developed a distinctive sound that fuses the high-energy breakbeats of jungle with deeply rooted Rastafarian spirituality and messages of positivity.

Performing under various aliases—including Rebel MC, Double Trouble, Tribe Of Issacher, X Project, Blackstar, and Conquering Lion—Congo Natty has continually pushed the boundaries of British electronic music. Since the early 1990s, his pioneering work has helped shape the cultural landscape of drum and bass, embodying a unifying force that transcends social divides. His critically acclaimed album "Ancestorz (Rootz Of Jungle)" (2020) exemplifies his visionary artistry and ongoing relevance.

Beyond his productions and performances, Congo Natty is also a dedicated mentor and label owner, committed to nurturing emerging talent and promoting community cohesion. His enduring legacy stands as a testament to how music can inspire, uplift, and forge connections across generations worldwide in the jungle and drum and bass scenes.
