Asas Livres is a trailblazing Brazilian band credited as the first to popularize the arrocha rhythm, a genre rooted deeply in Bahia’s musical heritage. Founded in 1986 in São Francisco do Conde, Bahia, the group is led by musician and entrepreneur Jailton Barbosa, who also serves as the band’s keyboardist and creative driving force. Arrocha, emerging from the traditional Brazilian seresta, is characterized by its keyboard-driven melodies—a hallmark crafted and refined by Barbosa, especially after his move to Candeias.

Under his visionary guidance, Asas Livres transformed regional sounds into a nationwide phenomenon, laying the foundation for arrocha’s distinctive rhythm long before the term became widely used by singers during live performances.
