About Rilo Kiley

Rilo Kiley is a Los Angeles-based indie rock band that emerged in the late 1990s, founded by the songwriting duo Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett. Their name, inspired by a dream Sennett had during the band’s early days, quickly became synonymous with sharp storytelling and emotionally layered music. The quartet was completed by bassist Pierre “Duke” de Reeder and drummer Jason Boesel, who joined shortly after the release of their debut album, "Take Offs and Landings" (2001). This first record introduced fans to their blend of candid lyrics and memorable melodies.

Their breakthrough came with "The Execution of All Things" (2002), which showcased a more refined sound and featured Boesel firmly on drums. Rilo Kiley’s 2004 album, "More Adventurous," lived up to its name by delivering increasingly intricate compositions, cementing their place in the indie rock scene. After a period dedicated to side projects, the band reunited to release the ’80s-inspired "Under the Blacklight" (2007), an album that explored darker, more groove-driven themes.

In 2013, Rilo Kiley offered fans a rare glimpse into their archives with "Rkives," a compilation of previously unreleased tracks. Demonstrating their lasting impact, the band announced their return to touring in 2025, reconnecting with audiences eager for their introspective and guitar-driven sound. Rilo Kiley remains an influential force in alternative rock, celebrated for their clever lyrics and richly emotional music that helped define early 2000s indie culture.
