About Maria Iskariot

Maria Iskariot is a formidable female-fronted punk rock band originating from Belgium, known for transforming raw energy and poignant rebellion into anthems of hopeful despair. Signed to the Dutch label Burning Fik—home to influential acts like Hang Youth and Gotu Jim—the band captured attention with their breakout single "Lief Klein Kind," a raw expression of millennial disillusionment. Their music boldly confronts the capitalist-realist world, combining urgent panic, explosive punk intensity, and pseudo-philosophical reflection.

In April 2024, Maria Iskariot released their debut EP, *EN/EN* (2024), a powerful exploration of the complexities of growing up amid confusion, moral ambiguity, and the yearning for meaningful change without a clear roadmap. Their lyrics, such as “I had forgotten that things could be different,” resonate as a battle cry for those trapped on society’s margins. Maria Iskariot's sound is a cathartic blend of noisy verses and impassioned choruses, sparking both unrest and empathy.

Often described as Belgium’s patron saint of debatable behavior, the band channels controlled chaos that acknowledges the world’s brokenness without surrendering to destruction. Their music invites listeners—those standing on the edge—to embrace solidarity, confront collective moral failings, and find love amid alienation. With this compelling approach, Maria Iskariot has carved a unique space in contemporary punk, bridging raw defiance with heartfelt reflection.
