About Cigarettes After Sex

Cigarettes After Sex is a Brooklyn-based dream pop and slowcore band led by frontman Greg Gonzalez, whose intimate and atmospheric sound has captivated listeners worldwide. Originating from El Paso, Texas, the project was born out of a deeply personal experience—following a painful Valentine’s Day breakup, Gonzalez found solace driving between shows while repeatedly listening to Sade’s "By Your Side." This moment of heartbreak inspired him to craft music that eloquently captures romantic vulnerability and emotional intimacy.

Since forming in 2008, Cigarettes After Sex has steadily built a devoted following, beginning with their 2012 EP and gaining wider acclaim with their self-titled debut album in 2017. Their 2019 release, "Cry," continued to explore love’s complexities through cinematic, evocative lyrics paired with dreamy, slow-burning melodies. Known for blending elements of dream pop, shoegaze, and slowcore, the band’s sound is marked by haunting, ethereal soundscapes and raw, vivid storytelling.

Their third studio album, "X’s," represents a creative evolution, focusing on a single four-year relationship to deliver a more concentrated and personal narrative. Cigarettes After Sex remains a defining force in indie music, their evocative exploration of love and loss resonating deeply with audiences seeking an authentic emotional connection.
