About Beau Wanzer

Chicago-based electronic producer Beau Wanzer is celebrated for his dark, gritty sound that blends influences from 1970s and '80s industrial, minimal synth, and the eerie ambiance of low-budget horror films. Known for layering zombified, haunting vocals over hypnotic, machine-driven rhythms, Wanzer creates a macabre yet strangely humorous atmosphere that defies easy genre labels—though his DJ-friendly tracks often intersect with techno circles, he resists being confined to that genre alone.

Raised in the American Midwest within a constantly relocating family, Wanzer developed an early fascination with industrial and EBM music, drawing inspiration from pioneering acts like Absolute Body Control and Front 242, as well as the darker realms of power electronics and noise found on labels such as Cold Meat Industry and Ant-Zen. After moving to Chicago around 2000, he deepened his engagement with underground electro and techno through his work at Weekend Records & Soap, a hub for the city’s experimental electronic scene.

Wanzer’s extensive catalog features raw, frequently one-take recordings that capture the urgency and immediacy of his style. His collaborative ventures are integral to his career, including the house project Mutant Beat Dance with Melvin Oliphant (Traxx), street-level electronic duo Streetwalker with Elon Katz (White Car), and techno alias Civil Duty alongside Shawn O'Sullivan (Led Er Est, Further Reductions).

His solo breakthrough arrived in 2013 with a self-titled EP on Ron Morelli’s L.I.E.S. label, followed by releases on its sublabel Russian Torrent Versions and Nation’s Power Outage EP (2014). Continuing to self-release limited editions and collaborate, Wanzer partnered with Corporate Park in 2015 and joined forces with Maoupa Mazzocchetti as De-Bons-en-Pierre, releasing the "Crepes" EP (2017) on Dark Entries. Beau Wanzer remains a distinctive presence in the underground electronic music landscape, consistently pushing the boundaries of his ominous, visceral sound.
