About L'Arpeggiata

Since its founding in 2000 by virtuoso theorbo player Christina Pluhar, L'Arpeggiata has established itself as one of the most inventive ensembles in early Baroque music. Named after a toccata by Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger, the group is celebrated for blending traditional Baroque repertoire with adventurous elements drawn from jazz, flamenco, and folk traditions. This fearless genre fusion has earned L'Arpeggiata a unique position in the early music scene.

Over more than two decades, L'Arpeggiata has performed at renowned venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall in New York, London’s Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and Sydney City Recital Hall. They have also appeared at major festivals such as Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele and Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci. Their extensive discography spans collaborations with leading countertenor Philippe Jaroussky and recordings on prominent labels like Alpha, Naïve, and Erato.

Noteworthy albums include their early work on Stefano Landi’s cantatas (2002) and the homage to Kapsperger (2004), as well as innovative projects like "Music for a While: Improvisations on Purcell" (2014), "Handel Goes Wild" (2017), and the Grammy-nominated "Himmelsmusik" (2019). More recent releases such as "Alla Napoletana" (2021), "Passacalle de Follie" (2023), and "Wonder Women" (2024)—which highlights 17th-century female voices—underscore L'Arpeggiata’s ongoing commitment to refreshing Baroque music with bold creativity and cross-genre exploration.
