About Gouge Away

Gouge Away is a South Florida-based band that emerged with a clear mission to fill a void in their local music scene. Originally formed to record a simple EP and play a single show, their debut album, *Dies* (2014), released on Eighty-Sixed Records, unexpectedly garnered attention far beyond their hometown. This early success laid the foundation for their evolving sound marked by raw emotion and intensity.

Their sophomore album, *Burnt Sugar* (2018), released through Deathwish Inc., showcased a more intimate and personal side of the band. Frontwoman Christina Michelle channeled the turmoil surrounding her mother’s heart issues into deeply affecting lyrics, lending the record a powerful emotional depth. Following this release, Gouge Away expanded their reach through extensive touring across the United States and internationally. They shared stages with influential acts such as Drug Church, Ceremony, Touché Amoré, Paint It Black, and Soul Glo, solidifying their place in the contemporary hardcore and post-punk scenes.

Between tours, Gouge Away crafted demos for their third album, blending nostalgic sounds of their youth with urgent, noise-infused energy and introspective songwriting. Although the COVID-19 pandemic paused their touring in 2020, the band revisited these demos at the end of 2022. In March 2023, they recorded their latest material live and analog at Atomic Garden East with producer Jack Shirley, capturing the raw, unfiltered essence of five friends jamming together. This approach preserves the authentic, unpolished spirit that defines Gouge Away’s music, keeping their sound as vital and compelling as ever.
