About Big Thief

Big Thief, the Brooklyn-based indie rock band, has steadily carved out a distinct space in contemporary music since their formation in 2015. Comprising Adrianne Lenker (vocals, guitar), Buck Meek (guitar), Max Oleartchik (bass), and James Krivchenia (drums and producer), the group is celebrated for its heartfelt lyricism and immersive, textured soundscapes. Their creative process is deeply collaborative and spontaneous, driven by a profound, almost indescribable connection among the members.

This artistic synergy is most evident in their ambitious fifth studio album, "Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You" (2022), released on 4AD. The sprawling double LP was crafted over five months across four diverse locations—Upstate New York, Topanga Canyon, the Rocky Mountains, and Tucson, Arizona. From an impressive collection of 45 completed tracks, the band distilled 20 songs that reflect the multifaceted nature of Lenker’s songwriting and the band’s evolving musical identity. Drummer James Krivchenia took on production duties, shaping the album’s fluid and adventurous sound.

Big Thief’s rise to prominence is rooted in their ability to blend intimate storytelling with expansive musical exploration. Their work resonates deeply with audiences and critics alike, establishing them as a vital force within the indie rock landscape.
