About Axolotes Mexicanos

Axolotes Mexicanos is a vibrant Spanish band hailing from Asturias, formed when schoolmates Olaya and Stephen teamed up with Olaya’s twin brother, Juan. Now based in Madrid, the group expanded its lineup by including Lucas from Confeti de Odio and Mario, known for his work with Carolina Durante and Temerario Mario. Their sound is an electrifying fusion that spans from frenetic punk energy to playful, demo-friendly electro-pop, characterized by raw intensity and muscular drive.

Despite a bright, childlike sonic palette, Axolotes Mexicanos’ lyrics often explore darker themes such as revenge, alien encounters, and loneliness. Their debut EP, "Infectados" (produced by Eva and Iván of Juniper Moon and Linda Guilala), reveals clear influences from iconic acts like Alaska y Los Pegamoides and Helen Love. Subsequent releases like "Holi <3" lean into J-pop styles, while "Trececatorce" ventures deeper into electronic terrain with synthesizer textures reminiscent of CAPSULE and vocal harmonies evocative of tofubeats.

Their ambitious project "Salu2" boldly blends euro-pop, disco, and pop-punk, drawing comparisons to Shampoo, Phoenix, and Kero Kero Bonito, incorporating autotune and quirky sound effects. Ahead of their 2021 album ":3," singles such as "Uwu," "Cara De Idiota," and "Que Te Pires" highlight Axolotes Mexicanos’ growth in production sophistication and knack for catchy, genre-defying hits. This dynamic band continues to carve out a distinct space in contemporary Spanish pop with inventive energy and fearless creativity.
