About Bodega

Brooklyn-based art-punk band Bodega has carved a distinctive place in the indie music scene with their sharp cultural critique and fuzz-soaked sound. Formed in 2015 originally as Bodega Bay, the group centers around lead guitarist and vocalist Ben Hozie, whose dual career as an indie filmmaker informs the band’s cinematic approach to music. Their debut, the aggressively lo-fi double album "Our Brand Could Be Your Life" (2015), introduced listeners to a raw, energetic mix of punk-infused indie rock that dissects corporate influence on youth culture with biting wit and urgency.

Featuring longtime members Dan Ryan on lead guitar, Adam See on bass, and Adam Shumski on drums, Bodega’s sound combines visceral guitar riffs with socially conscious storytelling, resonating far beyond their New York City underground roots. In 2024, the band revisited and reimagined their foundational album—retitled "Our Brand Could Be Yr Life"—produced by Hozie and engineered by Adam Sachs. This refreshed edition injects new life into their earlier work while pointing toward the band’s evolving future. Hozie compares this process to iconic filmmakers like Hitchcock and Ozu revisiting their classic films, underscoring Bodega’s unique melding of cinematic sensibility and punk attitude.

Bodega continues to challenge listeners with anthems that critique modern consumerism and capitalism, establishing themselves as provocative voices in contemporary indie rock.
