About Charly García

Charly García, born in Buenos Aires in 1951, is a legendary figure in Argentine and Latin American rock, celebrated for his revolutionary impact and extraordinary musical talent. Demonstrating remarkable aptitude from a young age, García received his first toy piano at three and astonishingly graduated as a music professor by twelve from the Thibaud Piazzini Conservatory, endowed with perfect pitch that shaped his career.

He first rose to prominence in the early 1970s by co-founding the folk-rock band Sui Generis with Nito Mestre. Their three albums captured the spirit of a generation before disbanding after a landmark concert at Luna Park Stadium. García then ventured into symphonic rock with La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros, whose politically charged work faced censorship during Argentina’s military dictatorship. Between 1978 and 1982, he achieved further acclaim with the supergroup Serú Girán, alongside David Lebón, Pedro Aznar, and Oscar Moro, producing essential albums like "Bicicleta" and "Peperina."

Launching a transformative solo career, García released the influential double album "Yendo de la Cama al Living" (1982), followed by the accessible pop-rock sound of "Clics Modernos" (1983) and "Parte de la Religión" (1987), which includes hits like "No Voy en Tren." His experimental side flourished with projects like the rock opera "La Hija de la Lágrima" (1994) and the avant-garde "Say No More" (1996). In 2017, García made a notable comeback with "Random," a critically acclaimed album featuring the top-three single "La Máquina de Ser Feliz."

Throughout his extensive career, Charly García has collaborated with icons such as Pedro Aznar, Mercedes Sosa, and Gustavo Cerati. Despite personal struggles and public controversies, his innovative spirit and boundary-pushing music continue to inspire generations, securing his status as a cornerstone of Latin American rock history.
