About AAA

Formed in 2005 under the direction of acclaimed Japanese producer Masato "Max" Matsuura, AAA (pronounced "Triple A" and standing for "Attack All Around") quickly emerged as a pioneering mixed-gender J-pop group. Originally a six-member ensemble, the lineup featured standout vocalist and bandleader Naoya Urata alongside Takahiro Nishijima, Mitsuhiro Hidaka, Shinjiro Atae, Shuta Sueyoshi, and the sole female original member, Misako Uno. Soon after, Yukari Goto and Chiaki Ito joined, enriching the group's dynamic. Members brought impressive and diverse backgrounds—Goto was a former national gymnast; Uno pursued studies at Tokyo Women’s University, while Hidaka attended Waseda University; several had prior experience as backup dancers for J-pop stars such as Ayumi Hamasaki and Ami Suzuki.

AAA debuted with the energetic single "Blood on Fire" (2005), famously chosen as the theme for the live-action adaptation of Initial D: The Movie. While initial chart success was modest, the group nevertheless earned the prestigious Best New Artist Award at the 47th Japan Record Awards that same year. Their debut album, *Attack* (2005), showcased a fresh blend of polished dance-pop infused with rap and guitar elements, secured through collaborations with renowned producers linked to icons like SMAP and Da Pump. Following albums included the remix compilation *Remix Attack* (2006) and their sophomore album *All* (2007), featuring footage from a celebrated Budokan concert.

Despite Goto’s departure in 2007 due to health issues, AAA sustained and expanded their vibrant presence, becoming one of the first J-pop groups to perform internationally at Otakon in Baltimore. Their signature mix of vibrant choreography, catchy melodies, and genre-blending sound has ensured AAA’s lasting appeal in Japan’s pop landscape and beyond.
