About Booka Shade

Booka Shade, the acclaimed electronic duo from Frankfurt, consists of Arno Kammermeier and Walter Merziger, who began their musical journey in the early 1990s as the synth-pop act Planet Claire. After releasing two moderately successful albums under that name, they shifted toward underground dance music, experimenting with various aliases including Degeneration, notable for the club hit "Una Musica Senza Ritmo." The duo officially adopted the name Booka Shade in 1995 with the single "Kind of Good," marking the beginning of their distinctive sound—a sophisticated blend of house, techno, ambient, and pop influences.

In 2002, seeking creative freedom, Booka Shade relocated to Berlin and co-founded the influential Get Physical label with M.A.N.D.Y. and DJ T. This pivotal move led to their breakthrough album "Memento" (2004) and subsequent acclaimed releases such as "Movements" (2006), "The Sun & the Neon Light" (2008), "More!" (2010), and "Eve" (2013), the latter recorded in Manchester and revealing a renewed creative energy. Their 2017 album "Galvany Street" revisited new wave elements, blending them seamlessly with their elegant house signature.

Booka Shade is widely celebrated for club staples like "Mandarine Girl" and "Body Language" (in collaboration with M.A.N.D.Y.) and for their innovative remixes of artists including Moby, Hot Chip, The Knife, and Dave Gahan. Through decades of evolution, they remain a vital force in electronic music, skillfully balancing underground authenticity with broad appeal.
