About Knats

Knats is an innovative jazz quintet hailing from Newcastle Upon Tyne, led by lifelong friends Stan Woodward on bass and King David-Ike Elechi on drums, alongside the virtuoso trumpeter Ferg Kilsby. Defining their sound as “Geordie Jazz,” they fuse sophisticated arrangements with infectious melodies and energetic, danceable grooves that carry a distinct punk vitality. This unique blend has shaped Knats into a fresh, boundary-pushing force within contemporary British jazz.

After relocating to London in late 2022, Knats quickly gained momentum in the capital’s vibrant jazz scene. They headlined a sold-out Jazz Refreshed show, supported Str4ta at the iconic Jazz Cafe, and performed at the prestigious BBC Proms, signaling their rising influence. Beyond their performances, the group has collaborated with notable artists such as Geordie Greep and Eddie Chacon and forged creative partnerships with fashion brands Palace, Beams, and Arc’teryx.

In early 2024, Knats signed with Gearbox Records, a pivotal move that led to the release of their self-titled debut album in 2025. Lauded by major publications including Jazzwise, Rolling Stone Japan, and The Guardian, the album solidified Knats’ reputation as a bold and exciting voice in modern jazz. With their vibrant sound and growing acclaim, Knats continues to reshape and energize the genre’s landscape.
