About RJD2

RJD2, born Ramble John Krohn on May 27, 1976, in Eugene, Oregon, is a pioneering figure in instrumental hip-hop and soulful production. Raised in Columbus, Ohio, he first made waves in the late 1990s as the DJ and producer for the local group MHz, releasing singles on Bobbito Garcia’s esteemed Fondle 'Em Records and gaining recognition from Vibe magazine. His solo breakthrough arrived with the 2002 debut album "Dead Ringer" on Definitive Jux, where he masterfully blended gritty samples with structured songwriting, earning comparisons to underground icons like DJ Shadow and El-P.

Over the years, RJD2 expanded his musical horizons beyond hip-hop. The 2004 release "Since We Last Spoke" integrated pop elements and showcased his evolving sound, while 2007’s "The Third Hand" on XL Recordings further highlighted his versatility. In 2010, he launched his own label, RJ’s Electrical Connections, debuting "The Colossus" and its instrumental companion "Inversions of the Colossus." His later works, including "More Is Than Isn’t" (2013), the collaborative "STS x RJD2" (2015), and "Dame Fortune" (2016), feature notable partnerships with artists like Phonte Coleman and Blueprint, reflecting his deepening exploration of R&B, soul, and hip-hop fusion.

RJD2 remains a vital and influential producer, renowned for crafting richly layered soundscapes—a testament to his enduring impact on the intersection of hip-hop and eclectic musical artistry.
