About Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy is a cornerstone of Swedish death metal, formed over three decades ago by the visionary Peter Tägtgren. Emerging from the underground scene in the early 1990s, the band quickly gained recognition for blending intense death metal aggression with rich melodies and atmospheric textures. Tägtgren, who is also known for his projects PAIN and Lindemann and his work at The Abyss studio, has shaped Hypocrisy’s distinctive sound, characterized by heavy grooves, versatile vocals, and a dynamic mix of brutality and sophistication.

The band’s extensive discography reflects their evolution and influence, featuring over a dozen studio albums. Early works like "Osculum Obscenum" (1993) established their morbid edge, while "Abducted" (1996) brought global attention with the iconic track "Roswell 47," an alien-themed anthem. Subsequent releases such as "The Arrival" (2004) and the critically acclaimed "Worship" (2021) demonstrate their ongoing creativity and relevance in the metal scene.

Hypocrisy’s lineup includes longtime bassist Mikael Hedlund, who joined in 1991, session guitarist Thomas Elofsson since 2013, and drummer Henrik Axelsson, part of the band since 2022. With powerful live performances worldwide and a fiercely loyal fan base, Hypocrisy continues to push the boundaries of death metal while cementing its legacy as one of Sweden’s most influential extreme metal acts.
