About Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend, formed in 2006 by Columbia University students Ezra Koenig, Chris Tomson, Chris Baio, and Rostam Batmanglij, has become a defining force in 21st-century indie rock. Originally evolving from their hip-hop project L’Homme Run, the band quickly distinguished itself by blending Afro-pop, ska, hip-hop, and ’80s pop influences into a literate, vibrant sound. Their name, inspired by a short film created by Koenig during his college years, first gained attention through performances at university literary clubs and widespread acclaim from music blogs.

Their self-titled debut album (2008) launched Vampire Weekend into the spotlight with Platinum-certified hits like "A-Punk" and "Oxford Comma." They made history as the first indie band to have two consecutive albums—"Contra" (2010) and "Modern Vampires of the City" (2013)—debut at number one on the Billboard 200. The latter earned them a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album, cementing their critical and commercial success.

After Rostam Batmanglij’s departure in 2016, Vampire Weekend embraced new collaborations, notably with producer Ariel Rechtshaid and artist Danielle Haim, resulting in the ambitious double album "Father of the Bride" (2019). This project topped the charts and won Grammy nominations, showcasing their evolving artistry. Their latest release, "Only God Was Above Us" (2024), channels late-’90s New York City nostalgia through layered, experimental pop, affirming Vampire Weekend’s enduring innovation and cultural relevance in indie music.
