About Dezerter

Dezerter is a groundbreaking Polish punk rock band formed in Warsaw in May 1981. Initially named SS-20—a provocative reference to Soviet nuclear missiles—the group was compelled to adopt the name Dezerter during Poland’s martial law period. Their debut single, "Ku przyszłości" (1983), marked the start of a prolific career deeply rooted in political dissent and underground culture. Early contributions to seminal compilations like "Fala" and "Jak punk to punk" (1985) helped establish their dominant presence in Poland’s punk scene.

In 1987, Dezerter achieved international recognition when the influential American label Maximum Rock’n’Roll released their first full-length album abroad, titled "Underground Out Of Poland." Meanwhile, their domestic debut "Kolaboracja" faced censorship at home, illustrating the band’s fraught relationship with authorities. Subsequent albums such as "Kolaboracja II" (1989) and "Wszyscy przeciwko wszystkim" (1990) expanded their reach, accompanied by extensive tours across Western Europe, Japan, and the United States.

Throughout the 1990s, Dezerter continued to shape Poland’s independent music landscape with impactful releases including "Blasfemia" (1992), "Ile procent duszy?" (1994), and "Ziemia jest płaska" (1997). Their 2010 album, "Prawo do bycia idiotą," earned them the prestigious Fryderyk Award, affirming their enduring relevance. Known for their politically charged lyrics, relentless energy, and uncompromising ethos, Dezerter remains an influential force in punk rock, consistently touring and inspiring new generations worldwide.
