About UFO

Formed in London in 1969, UFO emerged from the vibrant British rock scene with founding members vocalist Phil Mogg, guitarist Mick Bolton, bassist Pete Way, and drummer Andy Parker. Originally named Hocus Pocus, the band soon rebranded as UFO, inspired by a local club, and quickly carved a niche with their unique blend of space metal and hard rock. Their early albums, "UFO 1" (1971) and "Flying" (1971), found significant success across Japan, France, and Germany, though they remained relatively underappreciated in the UK.

UFO’s sound took a decisive turn in 1974 when Michael Schenker, formerly of Scorpions, replaced Bolton on guitar. Schenker’s sharper, heavier style propelled albums like "Phenomenon" (1974), "Force It" (1975), and the breakthrough "Lights Out" (1977), expanding their presence notably in the American rock market. Despite Schenker’s eventual departure after "Obsession" (1978), UFO persisted through various lineup changes, releasing albums such as "Mechanix" (1982), which featured the minor hit "Back into My Life."

Known for their melodic hooks infused with metal intensity, UFO has demonstrated remarkable resilience, overcoming multiple disbandments and reunions. Entering the 21st century, the addition of guitarist Vinnie Moore and drummer Jason Bonham helped the band evolve while honoring their legacy. Later works like "You Are Here" (2004), "The Monkey Puzzle" (2006), and "Conspiracy of Stars" (2015) showcase UFO’s enduring relevance and influence in hard rock and space metal, securing their place as pioneers with a prolific, evergreen catalog spanning over five decades.
