About Wayne Newton

Wayne Newton, born in 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia, is an enduring icon in American entertainment, famously crowned "Mr. Las Vegas." Beginning his professional career at the tender age of six, Newton moved with his family to Phoenix in the mid-1950s, where he formed a rockabilly duo with his brother Jerry. The brothers gained local fame through television performances before moving to Las Vegas in the early 1960s for a notable five-year residency.

Launching his solo career in 1963 under the mentorship of Bobby Darin at Capitol Records, Newton quickly became known for his signature hit "Danke Schoen" (1963), a timeless classic that remains central to his repertoire. While he enjoyed other singles like "Red Roses for a Blue Lady," his greatest chart success came in the early 1970s with "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast" (1972), which reached the top five while signed with Chelsea Records.

As his voice matured, Newton shifted focus from recording to live performance, becoming a polished and charismatic entertainer. Throughout the 1980s, he solidified his status as Las Vegas royalty, winning multiple Entertainer of the Year awards and becoming the highest-paid nightclub performer of his time—earning up to $1 million per month. Beyond music, Newton successfully invested in Las Vegas real estate, including ownership of the Aladdin casino, and gained acclaim as a breeder of Arabian horses. Despite financial setbacks in the early 1990s, he rebounded with lucrative international shows and memorable film cameos, cementing his legacy as a legendary showman and the definitive king of the Vegas Strip.
