About Mathieu Salama

Mathieu Salama is a distinguished French countertenor known for his deep dedication to baroque music and vocal pedagogy. His musical foundation was laid at the Conservatoire de Livry-Gargan, where he studied lyrical singing, piano, and guitar for seven years. Early on, Salama was captivated by the emotional depth of French chanson, drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Barbara, Jacques Brel, Édith Piaf, and Charles Aznavour. However, a transformative trip to Venice sparked a profound passion for baroque vocal traditions, steering him toward the demanding countertenor repertoire.

A decade ago, Salama founded Crescendo in Paris, a school committed to voice and music education. There, he developed the innovative "Fasila" singing method, blending technical precision with expressive artistry. Under the mentorship of Nicole Fallien and later Robert Expert, he refined his craft and mastered the intricacies of baroque music.

Mathieu Salama’s career as a soloist shines through his performances with specialized period ensembles, particularly his acclaimed program "Hommage aux Castrats." This tribute earned the distinction of a "Coup de Cœur" from Radio Classique and has been showcased in prestigious venues such as the Église de la Madeleine, Château de Maisons-Laffitte, Château d’Écouen, Les Billettes, the Oratoire du Louvre, and Église Saint-Roch. Salama’s artistry uniquely bridges classical tradition and contemporary interpretation, making him a prominent figure in today’s early music scene.
