About Mario Bakuna

Mario Bakuna is a renowned Brazilian composer, arranger, singer, and guitarist currently based in London. With over twenty years of professional experience, he developed his exceptional musical skills at the Free University of Music in São Paulo, studying under prominent mentors such as Olmir Stocker, Roberto Sion, and Roberto Bomilcar. Rooted deeply in Afro-Brazilian music, samba, jazz, and bossa nova, Bakuna first made his mark in Brazil collaborating with celebrated artists including Itacir Bocato, Renato Consorte, and Nelson Aires.

After relocating to Europe, he quickly emerged as one of the foremost ambassadors of Brazilian music across England and the continent. His guitar playing combines virtuosic technique with controlled precision, while his distinctive, textured voice has drawn critical acclaim—Songlines magazine notably described it as having "a texture like heavy cloth." Bakuna frequently shares the stage with distinguished musicians such as Jean Toussaint, Liam Noble, Ricardo dos Santos, Edmundo Carneiro, and Alain Jean Marie.

His discography features critically praised albums like "Where Rio de Janeiro Meets Bahia" and "Brazilian Landscapes," which highlight his sophisticated compositional and arranging talents. Through mastering his craft and blending rich Brazilian traditions with contemporary influences, Mario Bakuna continues to captivate global audiences and solidify his status as a key figure in modern Brazilian music.
