About Yuko Araki

Yuko Araki is a Tokyo-based multi-instrumentalist and composer celebrated for redefining the frontiers of noise, post-industrial techno, and experimental electronics. Classically trained as a pianist from childhood, her teenage immersion in hardcore and metal music introduced her to intense sonic landscapes, fueling her diverse musical explorations. Early in her career, Araki played drums for the tribal prog-rock band Kuunatic and co-founded the neo-classical noise duo Concierto de la Familia, experiences that enriched her dynamic approach to sound.

Since 2019, Araki has focused on her solo project centered around modular synthesizers and analog noise. Through a carefully reductive set of tools, she crafts dense, intergalactic soundscapes that merge noise, drone, and industrial elements with traditions of Japanese experimental music. Her debut EP, "I" (2019), released by Indonesia’s Gerpfast Kolektif, and the follow-up album, "II" (2019), on Italy’s Commando Vanessa, introduced listeners to her energetic yet intricate style.

Australian label Room40 has been pivotal in bringing Araki’s work to a global audience, releasing the critically acclaimed "End of Trilogy" (2021) and "IV" (2023), the latter featuring haunting vocals and a collaboration with Taichi Nagura of Endon. In 2024, she expanded her numbered series with "Zenjitsutan -前日譚," a long-form noise drone prequel that deepens her exploration of ritualistic sound.

Yuko Araki’s captivating performances have taken her across Asia, Europe, the UK, and Canada, including appearances at MUTEK JP, Skaņu Mežs, Cafe OTO, and Freespace Noise Fest. Her collaborations with visual artists like Daisy Dickinson and Jackson Kaki further enhance her immersive audiovisual experiences, securing her place as a distinctive and influential figure in contemporary experimental music.
