About The Exploited

Emerging from Edinburgh’s working-class West Granton district in 1978, The Exploited solidified their status as a cornerstone of the UK’s second-wave punk scene. Fueled by raw energy and a fierce anti-authoritarian spirit, the band blended street punk, Oi!, and hardcore to create an uncompromising sound that resonated with disaffected youth. Frontman Wattie Buchan, who took control after the band’s challenging debut show and remains the sole constant member, led The Exploited through decades of high-octane punk.

Their debut album, "Punks Not Dead" (1981), defied expectations by reaching No. 20 on the UK charts and earning them a spot on the iconic show *Top of the Pops*. Building on this momentum, they released seminal records such as "Troops of Tomorrow" (1982) and the politically charged "Let's Start a War… Said Maggie One Day" (1983), which reinforced their reputation for blistering social commentary. By the time of "Death Before Dishonour" (1987), The Exploited had infused crossover thrash metal elements into their music, intensifying their aggressive edge.

Despite lineup changes and industry challenges, they consistently delivered fierce releases like "Beat the Bastards" (1996) and maintained their rebellious fire with "Fuck the System" (2003). Known for relentless touring across the UK and Europe, The Exploited continue to embody punk’s defiant spirit, influencing generations with their thunderous live shows and enduring legacy.
