About Kanonenfieber

Kanonenfieber is a German blackened death metal project that emerged in 2020, distinguished by its intense and historically grounded musical exploration of World War I. The band’s name, meaning “cannon fever,” evokes the psychological torment experienced by soldiers trapped in the brutal trenches of the Great War. Kanonenfieber channels this harrowing period through a powerful blend of black metal atmospherics and death metal ferocity, crafting an immersive tribute to the countless men reduced to expendable cannon fodder.

What sets Kanonenfieber apart within the German metal scene is their meticulous dedication to historical authenticity. Their lyrics draw directly from original wartime documents, soldiers’ letters, and firsthand accounts of both survivors and the fallen, lending their music a raw, documentary-like depth. This approach underpins themes of death, fear, starvation, and the relentless struggle for survival in mud-soaked trenches.

The band’s members maintain anonymity behind masks, deliberately shifting the focus away from individual personalities to honor the silent voices lost to history. Through this fusion of brutal sound and heartfelt remembrance, Kanonenfieber offers a visceral auditory experience that resonates as both artistic expression and poignant historical memorial, solidifying their unique place in extreme metal’s landscape.
