About Hooverphonic

Hooverphonic is a Belgian ambient pop band that emerged in 1995, founded by guitarist Alex Callier, keyboardist Frank Duchêne, and guitarist Raymond Geerts. Originally performing under the name Hoover, they adopted the name Hooverphonic to avoid trademark conflicts and appeal to a broader international audience. The band quickly gained recognition with their 1996 breakthrough single "2Wicky," which sampled Pierre Henry and Isaac Hayes and featured in Bernardo Bertolucci’s film "Stealing Beauty." This atmospheric hit, along with their debut album "A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular" (1996), established their signature blend of trip-hop, moody soundscapes, and cinematic textures.

Hooverphonic’s lineup and sound evolved notably over the years, marked by several lead vocalists, including Liesje Sadonius, Geike Arnaert (who joined in 1998), Noémie Wolfs, and later Luka Cruysberghs, who fronted their tenth studio album "Looking for Stars" (2018). Their 1998 album "Blue Wonder Power Milk" launched them into domestic stardom, while subsequent releases like "The Magnificent Tree," "Jackie Cane" (2002), and "The President of the LSD Golf Club" consistently hit the Belgian Top Ten, with several albums reaching number one.

Renowned for their seamless fusion of psychedelic, orchestral, and pop elements, Hooverphonic have created an enduring cinematic sound that resonates internationally. Their music has featured in films, TV shows, and advertisements, reinforcing their global appeal. Despite vocalist changes, Hooverphonic’s rich instrumentation and haunting melodies continue to captivate audiences, securing their status as one of Belgium’s most influential and innovative bands.
