About Yumi Zouma

Yumi Zouma is a New Zealand-based alternative rock and indie pop band that first came together in 2013 as an innovative long-distance home-recording project. The group quickly gained international attention with their early releases, *EP I* (2014) and *EP II* (2015), which earned acclaim from influential music blogs and led to touring opportunities with major artists like Lorde, remarkably before the band had even rehearsed together in person.

Their debut album, *Yoncalla* (2016), was recorded at Philippe Zdar’s renowned Motorbass studio in Paris, showcasing a lush blend of dreamy synthpop and indie rock. The band’s sophomore album, *Willowbank* (2017), marked a shift to a warmer, more organic sound and was recorded in their hometown of New Zealand. Maintaining their creative momentum, Yumi Zouma released *EP III* in 2018, followed by their critically praised third studio album, *Truth or Consequences* (2020), which was accompanied by a companion release, *Alternate Versions*.

Drawing inspiration from recording sessions across Los Angeles, London, and Florence, Yumi Zouma’s fourth album, *Present Tense* (2022), revealed a more nuanced synthesis of their signature sound with new influences. Continuing to evolve, the band released "KPR," the lead single from their upcoming fourth EP set for December 2023, reaffirming Yumi Zouma’s reputation for consistently captivating and boundary-pushing indie music.
