About Westside Cowboy

Westside Cowboy is a four-piece band hailing from Manchester, composed of Aoife Anson O’Connell, James (Jimmy) Bradbury, Paddy Murphy, and Reuben Haycocks. They have carved out a unique niche within the indie music scene by pioneering a sound they call "Britainicana"—a vibrant fusion of raw, lo-fi energy with 1950s British rock’n’roll, country, traditional folk, and early harmony-rich rock. This blend channels the melodic warmth of Teenage Fanclub and the laid-back cool of Pavement, all filtered through the lens of small-town northwest England life.

Formed from casual jam sessions centered around old folk and skiffle traditions, Westside Cowboy quickly caught attention with their debut single, "I’ve Never Met Anyone I Thought I Could Really Love (Until I Met You)" (2023). Produced by Mercury Prize winner Lewis Whiting, the track embodies their ethos with explosive guitars and Aoife’s distinctive, flute-like vocals, delivering an immediacy that feels both vintage and urgent. Known for their spirited live performances—often performed around a single microphone to recreate a pre-rock’n’roll intimacy—the band thrives on communal energy, inviting audiences into a shared, caffeine-fueled celebration of music.

Signed to indie label Nice Swan, home to innovative acts like Chalk and Sports Team, Westside Cowboy blend humor with heartfelt storytelling in songs designed to endure, evoking the image of timeless pub sing-alongs. Their motto, “Sell out, rock and roll!” underscores their commitment to unpretentious, boundary-pushing music. Far from a nostalgic novelty, Westside Cowboy stands as a vital force redefining contemporary British indie rock with a sound that feels both timeless and undeniably fresh.
