About Alex Serra

Alex Serra is a Barcelona-based musician whose distinctive sound reflects a rich tapestry of Mediterranean roots and global influences. His debut album, "In the Real World" (2019), is the culmination of a transformative four-year journey that began in 2012 and took him across Latin America and South Africa. During his time in Cape Town in 2014, Serra collaborated with musician Yannick Meyer to form Native Young, a psychedelic African pop project featuring marimba players from the townships of Gugulethu, Kayelitsha, and Philippi. This cross-cultural exchange deeply shaped his evolving musical identity.

Upon returning to Barcelona in 2016, Serra joined forces with dub producer Toti Arimany (Totidub), which was instrumental in refining the album’s atmospheric blend of downtempo, dub, soul, reggae, and Afro-Latin rhythms. His compositions are marked by the clever integration of natural soundscapes and field recordings from his travels, layered with soulful guitar melodies and textured dub effects. Lyrically, Alex Serra delves into themes of awakening to a deeper “Real World,” a sacred and interconnected space that resonates universally. His music offers listeners a heartfelt journey through sonic and spiritual landscapes, establishing him as a compelling voice in contemporary world fusion music.
