About Bach Collegium München

Bach Collegium München is a distinguished Munich-based ensemble specializing in historically informed performances of Baroque music, with a primary focus on Johann Sebastian Bach’s sacred and secular masterpieces. Founded and led by the esteemed conductor Hanns-Martin Schneidt, the group has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s premier period-instrument ensembles. Their dedication to authentic performance practice involves meticulous research into 18th-century tuning, articulation, and instrumental balance, allowing them to revive Bach’s cantatas, passions, and orchestral suites with remarkable clarity and emotional depth.

The ensemble’s vibrant interpretations combine rigorous musicological insight with expressive artistry, making complex contrapuntal textures accessible to both seasoned connoisseurs and new audiences. Beyond Bach, their repertoire embraces other significant Baroque composers, often showcased through critically acclaimed recordings and live performances across Europe’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls. Regular collaborations with celebrated soloists and vocal groups enhance their dynamic presentations, further enriching the listener’s experience.

Through its commitment to scholarly precision and passionate musicianship, Bach Collegium München continues to illuminate the architectural brilliance of Baroque soundscapes. Their work not only preserves the theological and cultural dimensions of 18th-century sacred music but also breathes fresh vitality into centuries-old compositions, solidifying their place at the forefront of the early music revival.
