About Don Omar

Don Omar, born William Omar Landrón on February 10, 1978, in Villa Palmeras, Puerto Rico, is a pioneering figure in reggaeton and one of the genre’s most influential international superstars. Before launching his music career, Don Omar was a church preacher, a background that shaped his emotive vocal style and socially conscious lyrics. His early music journey involved collaborations with key producers like Luny Tunes and Héctor el Bambino, notably contributing to Héctor & Tito’s work before stepping into the spotlight himself.

Don Omar’s breakthrough came with his debut album, "The Last Don" (2003), a landmark release that fueled reggaeton’s expansion into the U.S. market. Hits like "Intocable" and "Dile" established him as a formidable artist. His 2005 single "Reggaeton Latino" became an anthem of Latino pride and one of the first reggaeton tracks to cross over into mainstream American media, especially through a bilingual remix featuring N.O.R.E. and Fat Joe, which gained MTV airplay.

In 2006, Don Omar’s "King of Kings" made history as the first reggaeton album to break into the Billboard 200’s Top Ten, reaching number eight and debuting atop Latin charts. Singles like "Angelito" highlighted his ability to blend catchy rhythms with meaningful messages. Subsequent projects such as "iDon" (2009), "Don Omar Presents Meet the Orphans" (2010), and the Latin Grammy-winning "MTO: New Generation" (2012) reinforced his status as a trailblazer in urbano music.

"The Last Don 2" (2015) further showcased Don Omar’s enduring relevance with hits like "Soledad" and "Perdido en Tus Ojos" featuring Natti Natasha. Collaborations with artists like Zion & Lennox and Sharlene Taule demonstrated his versatility and commitment to evolving Latin music. Don Omar remains a transformative artist whose fusion of spiritual passion and vibrant reggaeton rhythms helped elevate the genre to a global stage, solidifying his legacy as a cultural ambassador.
