About Black Doldrums

London-based duo Black Doldrums, made up of Kevin Gibbard and Sophie Landers, have quickly established themselves as pioneers in contemporary gothic post-punk and dark alternative music. Their signature sound blends primal drumming, melodic basslines, and shimmering guitar textures with darkwave and synth-pop influences, creating an atmospheric, emotionally charged sonic landscape. Their introspective lyrics delve into themes of psychology, identity, isolation, and human connection, lending their music both depth and resonance.

Black Doldrums’ groundbreaking “State of Mind Trilogy” began with their critically acclaimed debut album, "Dead Awake" (2022, Fuzz Club Records), which garnered praise from major outlets including Rolling Stone and Uncut. The follow-up, "In Limerence" (2024), marked an evolution in their sound with lush yet glacial atmospheres, described as oscillating between bursts of energy and ethereal calm. They concluded the trilogy with "Repetition Compulsion," an exploration of psychoanalytic concepts centered on inherited emotional patterns and inner struggles.

Known for ritualistic and hypnotic live performances, Black Doldrums strike a powerful balance of menace and euphoria, captivating audiences with immersive intensity. Their rising international reputation was solidified during a 2025 European arena tour supporting the legendary band Archive, where they showcased their uncompromising vision built on tension, texture, and transcendence. With a sound that is as brutal as it is beautiful, Black Doldrums continue to redefine the boundaries of dark alternative music.
