About The Menstrual Cramps

The Menstrual Cramps, formed in 2017 in Bristol, UK, emerged from a crucible of social unrest and near homelessness, channeling their rage into fiercely political music. What began as a lo-fi, distorted acoustic project recorded in a broken bedroom soon evolved into a band known for unapologetic activism and cutting social commentary. Their debut album, *We're Not Ovaryacting* (2017), set the tone with provocative calls to "Save the Badgers" and "Cull the Tories," while their bold video for "My Bush Ain’t Ur Business," advocating bodily autonomy, faced removal from YouTube amid controversy.

Building on this momentum, The Menstrual Cramps returned in 2019 with *Free Bleedin’*, featuring revolutionary anthems such as "The Smash," the anti-rape culture track "No Means No," and "Idols," a critique of toxic idolization in the art world. The album also included the humor-laced "I Like That Top," which gained wider recognition through its inclusion in the BIFA-winning film *Sweetheart* (2021). After a five-year hiatus, the band signed with Alcopop! Records and released their *ACAB* EP in 2024. This powerful collection tackles themes of genuine gender liberation in "Body Politics," abortion rights with "Abortion," labor solidarity in "Class War," and pandemic frontline struggles captured in "Antagonistic."

Blending raw punk energy with fearless activism, The Menstrual Cramps have carved a distinct niche in the UK’s underground music scene, proving music can spark change as much as it can provoke thought.
