About Friko

Chicago-based indie rock duo Friko, comprised of Niko Kapetan and Bailey Minzenberger, has rapidly distinguished themselves in the city’s vibrant music scene since their formation in 2019. Blending influences from post-punk, chamber-pop, and experimental rock, their sound is marked by raw emotional intensity and spirited gang vocals. Their self-released EP, "Whenever Forever" (2022), helped build early momentum, setting the stage for their critically acclaimed debut album, "Where We’ve Been, Where We Go From Here" (2022). Released on ATO Records and mastered by acclaimed engineer Heba Kadry, the album weaves poetic lyricism with eclectic sonic textures, earning praise from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, NPR Music, and placing on year-end lists including NME.

Friko’s dynamic live shows, renowned for their emotional charge and high energy, have graced iconic Chicago venues such as the Metro, Empty Bottle, and Schubas Tavern, as well as major festivals including Bonnaroo, Fuji Rock, Pitchfork Festival Paris, Newport Folk, and Lollapalooza. Their extensive touring, which included support slots for The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse, helped expand their audience internationally.

In 2024, Friko released their sophomore album, "Something Worth Waiting For," produced by Grammy-winner John Congleton. This record broadens their sonic palette, incorporating elements of noise-rock, avant-garde classical, and ’70s-inspired symphonic balladry. Thematically, it explores ideas of transition, loneliness, and human connection, reinforcing Friko’s reputation for pushing indie rock forward with a blend of mature grit and youthful idealism.
