About Mac DeMarco

Mac DeMarco is a celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, renowned for his signature lo-fi indie rock sound infused with laid-back, dreamy pop elements. Born in 1990 and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, DeMarco later moved to British Columbia before settling in Los Angeles, California. His music blends jangly guitar work, smooth synths, and relaxed, introspective vocals, hallmarks of the so-called "slacker rock" movement.

Emerging as a self-produced artist, DeMarco’s DIY ethic and home studio recordings have earned him both critical acclaim and a devoted international following. Breakthrough albums like Salad Days (2014) and This Old Dog (2017) showcase his melodic ingenuity and emotionally nuanced lyricism, establishing him as a leading figure in contemporary indie music. His work demonstrates a deft balance between humor and genuine emotional depth, contributing to his broad appeal.

Throughout his career, Mac DeMarco has collaborated with a range of artists and released music through influential labels such as Royal Mountain Records and Captured Tracks. Drawing on his Canadian upbringing and Italian heritage, he continues to push creative boundaries, cementing his reputation as one of Canada’s most distinctive and influential indie rock musicians.
