About Da Lata

Da Lata is a British musical duo founded in 1994 by Chris Franck and Patrick Forge, who have played a pivotal role in blending Afro-Brazilian rhythms with contemporary dance music. Originating in London during the vibrant mid-1990s global music scene, Da Lata crafted a distinctive sound by fusing samba, bossa nova, and batucada traditions with elements of house, broken beat, and downtempo electronica. This innovative mix of Brazilian and Afro-Latin grooves, combined with electronic production techniques, positioned them as early pioneers in the electronic world music crossover movement.

Both members brought complementary expertise: Patrick Forge, known for his influential work as a DJ and broadcaster specializing in jazz-funk and rare groove, infused deep musical knowledge and rhythmic sophistication. Meanwhile, Chris Franck provided inventive production skills and a fresh approach to sonic textures. Their collaboration resulted in albums and tracks that resonate across dance floors and chill-out rooms alike, combining authentic cultural sounds with accessible, infectious beats.

Released on respected labels such as Palm Pictures, Da Lata’s music has garnered acclaim among DJs, collectors, and world music enthusiasts. Through their engaging compositions and dynamic performances, Da Lata continues to push boundaries, celebrating cultural diversity and creating rich, worldly grooves that remain influential in the evolving landscape of electronic and dance music.
